Job overview and responsibilities
This position is responsible for working with multiple groups to research and answer various payroll tax issues covering Federal, State, Local and County. This position is primarily responsible in the timely funding, filing, and reporting of $3.5B-$4B in employer and employee taxes annually.
- Tax Research and Compliance:
- Perform research of newly imposed payroll taxes to provide proper guidance and understanding of correct application
- Verify and validate current payroll tax application to ensure company compliance
- Conduct research and answer questions by various taxing authorities related to payroll tax filing
- Work directly with Tax Department to research and resolve government audits
- Assist other payroll groups on any employee tax research
- Financial Reporting and Reconciliation:
- Discuss and present overall financial impacts of accounting work or project results with senior management and internal/external auditors
- Journal entry preparation & submission, month-end account review & analysis
- Submit journal entries to correct any imbalances identified in research
- Reconcile periodic payroll with quarterly filing to ensure validity of payroll information
- Reconcile payroll data with third party tax vendor invoices to ensure accuracy in billing
- Assist in year-end reconciliation
- Payroll Operations and Tax Filing:
- Ensure timely funding and reporting of approximately $3.5B-$4B employment taxes
- Set up new company account with local tax authority as well as work with ADP on new tax code creation
- Daily funding of stock option taxes
- Responsible in the timely and accurate filing of Form 941 Employer Quarterly Federal Tax Return
- Support payroll operations
- Work with a third-party tax vendor to ensure timely funding of all taxes to various jurisdictions
- Data Management / Analysis and Communication:
- Develop and maintain Microsoft Excel worksheets and database to aid in the quarterly and annual payroll reconciliation
- Assist with monthly extract of general ledger data, account reconciliation balance, and review & reconciliation of taxes collected, recorded in the GL, and filed with ADP
- Communicate effectively with internal and external departments to resolve outstanding tax items
- A liaison between Tax Department and Payroll Tax & Accounting, ensuring that needed tax requirements are in place
- Work with outside vendor on various tax filings / inquiries
- Banking:
- Upload / Review / Approve Chase Access Local Draft
- Review cases in Help Hub and monitor Stop Payment mailbox
- Review Daily Exceptions
QualificationsWhat’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field
- 3+ years general accounting inclusive of at least 2 years of account reconciliation and analytical experience
- Knowledge of payroll taxes and tax filing requirements
- Knowledge of W2 process and 941 corporate filing
- Professional financial experience to ensure accurate, effective presentation of accounting and results to management
- Requires attention to detail, ability to adjust to a flexible schedule as needed, and strong initiative; must be a self-starter
- Ability to analyze data and produce meaningful reports and metrics
- Strong skills in MS Office - especially Excel
- Ability to communicate complex ideas to all levels of the organization
- Ability to problem solve
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
- Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
- Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
The base pay range for this role is $79,800.00 to $103,966.00.
The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
