UnspecifiedThe role is required to oversee and manage environmental and wastewater treatment operations across 2 sites sites in Singapore. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, optimizing wastewater treatment processes, and promoting sustainable practices across both sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Environmental Compliance: Ensure that both GOPS sites comply with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations, including wastewater discharge permits, air quality standards, and hazardous waste management.
- Wastewater Treatment Management: Oversee the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities, including monitoring treatment processes, conducting regular inspections, and ensuring efficient and effective treatment of wastewater equipment, measuring instruments and sensors
- Process Optimization: Identify opportunities to improve wastewater treatment processes, reduce waste, and enhance overall efficiency. Implement best practices and innovative solutions to achieve environmental goals.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect, analyze, and report environmental data, including wastewater quality, emissions, and waste generation. Prepare and submit regulatory reports and documentation as required.
- Environmental Audits: Conduct regular environmental audits and assessments to identify potential areas of non-compliance and implement corrective actions. Ensure readiness for external audits and inspections. Support in the site’s external and internal inspections and audits (ISO14001, 45001, 50001, program evaluations, etc)
- Sustainability Initiatives: Develop and implement sustainability initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of operations. Promote the adoption of green technologies and practices at both sites.
- Training and Education: Provide training and guidance to site personnel on environmental and wastewater treatment procedures, regulatory requirements, and best practices. Foster a culture of environmental awareness and responsibility.
- Emergency Response: Develop and maintain emergency response plans for environmental incidents, including spills, leaks, and other emergencies. Coordinate response efforts and ensure timely communication with relevant authorities.
- Vendor Management: Manage relationships with external vendors and contractors involved in environmental and wastewater treatment services. Ensure that all third-party activities comply with company standards and regulations.
- Project Management: Lead and manage environmental projects, including upgrades/automating wastewater treatment facilities, installation of new equipment, and implementation of environmental initiatives. Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Reporting and Sampling: Perform NEA required waste reporting. Manage weekly sampling from regulatory agencies. Maintain sampling and discharge monitoring equipment
- Risk Management: Review, revise and advise on risk assessment, job hazard assessment and participate in process hazard management.
- Continual Improvement: Review and analyze technological advances in the realm of EHS and WWTP pertinent to the site
Area of Focus:
- Be competent and expertise in local, US OSHA and EPA legislative
- Knowledge of: operation and maintenance of onsite wastewater treatment facilities; wastewater treatment processes, chemical characteristics and standard method of sampling and analysis of water; occupational hazards and standard precautions and emergency response necessary in a wastewater treatment facility.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision, training and performance evaluation. Responsible for performing a risk assessment of work activities, taking corrective and preventive actions
- Uphold EHS guiding principles to drive the site/s to best practices that make up world class EH&S culture
Area of Expertise;
- Proficient in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment system, including components such as pumps, physio-chemical treatment, hexavalent chromium reduction, ultra-filtration, carbon filtration, ion exchange, vacuum distillation, ultraviolet disinfection, electrochemical coagulation system and acid/alkaline and cyanide scrubbers.
- Capable of planning, directing, scheduling, and supervising employees or contractors in the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant. Skilled in monitoring the operational efficiency of a large-scale treatment system, maintaining records, and preparing reports on plant operations and effluent quality. Able to suggest methods for improving plant efficiency and supervise laboratory activities related to wastewater analysis.
- Proficient in using supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems to analyze data for quality control of plant processes.
- Experienced in ordering supplies and materials, preparing cost estimates, assisting in the development of equipment specifications, and contributing to budget preparation and administration.
- Competent in training subordinates and responding to emergencies on a 24/7 on-call basis.
Requirements:
- Degree in Engineering/Chemistry/Environmental Engineering discipline with relevant waste water treatment experience;
- At least 5 years’ relevant experience preferably in a similar function
- Certificate of competency in waste water treatment is preferred.
- Knowledge of local legislation and US OSHA and EPA requirements
- Certificates in Fire Safety Manager, Hazardous substance license holder, confined space, will be advantageous
- Good knowledge of safe handling procedures of hazardous substances
- Knowledge of computer and Microsoft Office
- Aspiring/Registered WSHO
