Bring Your Engineering Vision to Life in the Aerospace IndustryPDS Tech Commercial is seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to support cutting-edge aerospace hardware and test equipment development in Burnsville, MN. This full-time, 9-month consulting role is perfect for an engineer ready to make an impact in one of the world’s most advanced industries. From concept to production, you’ll be designing components that power innovation in avionics testing and aerospace systems.
Salary range: $33.00 - $40.00/HR
This position requires use of information or access to facilities subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). These regulations may limit access of controlled technologies: 1) to U.S. Persons, including U.S. Citizens, lawful permanent residents, and other narrow categories including refugees and asylees, or 2) to certain foreign nationals that have received an export license.
What You’ll Be Doing – Day-to-Day ResponsibilitiesIn this first-shift role (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday–Friday), youll contribute to a collaborative engineering environment supporting a variety of test equipment and avionics programs.
Your responsibilities will include:
Designing and drafting mechanical components and assemblies (approx. 70 design/drafting focus)
Supporting engineering processes and documentation (20)
Performing mechanical design analysis, reverse engineering, and test fixture development (10)
Creating and modifying mechanical drawings using tools like SolidWorks, NX Designer, and AutoCAD
Designing electro-mechanical test fixtures, cables, and interfaces
Contributing to prototype builds, verification, and validation
Collaborating across multi-disciplinary engineering teams
Supporting troubleshooting and continuous improvement of production and test systems
Releasing design documentation to production and facilitating the full product lifecycle
What You Need to BringRequired Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 3+ years of relevant experience
(or an advanced degree with 1+ year, or 7+ years of experience in lieu of a degree)
Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, NX Designer, or equivalent CAD tools
Strong practical experience in mechanical design and analysis
Demonstrated experience in collaborative, cross-functional engineering environments
Working knowledge of mechanical systems, pressurized components, and electro-mechanical designs
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with Avionics products
GD&T expertise and robust drafting/documentation skills
Experience in fabrication methods: CNC machining, welding, sheet metal, additive manufacturing
Understanding of test equipment design and systems integration
Detail-oriented mindset with a hands-on, problem-solving approach
3D printing experience and a passion for continuous design feedback
