The Boeing Company’s Global Enterprise Sustainability (GES) organization is seeking Senior Environmental Remediation Engineers or Scientists to manage multiple complex remediation projects with a focus on team leadership, project strategy, stakeholder engagement, compliance and risk mitigation. This position is based in Tukwila, WA.

This position requires working effectively with other Boeing functions including communications, finance, legal, procurement, and facilities in accomplishing aggressive business goals and objectives. The position also requires strong leadership skills including working successfully with regulatory agency management and staff, leading diverse teams of technical and academic experts, consensus building and decision making on complex regulatory/technical matters, and coordination with other responsible parties and their contractors. Will require travel, primarily between Puget Sound sites and other out-of-state locations.
Position Responsibilities:
- Manage environmental investigations, monitoring, and cleanup of surface and subsurface media (soil, soil gas, surface water, storm water, and groundwater) and operation and maintenance of treatment systems at multiple and/or complex sites
- Lead team to investigate soil/soil gas/water to identify potential contaminants and recommend remedial alternatives
- Lead/oversee team to develop work plans and cost forecasts for all phases of complex remediation projects from investigation to operation and maintenance
- Conduct financial and project status reviews with management, including business unit and enterprise organizations
- Review and interpret environmental regulations relating to remediation, and work collaboratively with regulatory agencies in determining remediation and compliance requirements
- Evaluate emerging environmental issues on local, state, federal and international levels to assess impact on remediation projects; develop program guidance in consultation with senior management
- Develop and direct vendor, contractor and supplier activities, track performance and review invoices
- Represent the company to internal and external stakeholders on complex environmental matters
- Coordinate public information/communications with internal stakeholders prior to release
Additional Responsibilities for Level 5:
- Lead and coach a team of project managers in accomplishing goals for a portfolio of projects (Level 5 only, depending on qualifications); lead organization process improvement initiatives
This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future. Currently 3 days onsite.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Science or related field
- 5+ years managing environmental investigation/remediation activities/projects for multiple, complex sites
- 5+ years managing and directing contractors on environmental remediation projects
- 5+ years collaborating and negotiating with other parties and regulatory agencies
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- 10+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5+ years of formal or informal leadership experience involving internal and external stakeholders
- Experience performing environmental site investigations, remedy alternatives analysis, and implementing remedial actions, inclusive of managing associated budgets, schedules and communications
- Experience identifying, evaluating, mitigating, and communicating environment, health and safety risks associated with remediation activities at industrial sites
- Experience conducting and/or directing contractor activities for environmental investigation, monitoring, cleanup, and operation/maintenance of remediation systems at industrial sites
- Experience with state and federal regulatory requirements and policy, including reviewing and interpreting environmental regulations
- Ability to work collaboratively with regulatory agencies in determining remediation and compliance requirements
- Demonstrated leadership involving both internal and external stakeholders
- Effective cross-functional communication and collaboration skills

Summary pay range Senior (Level 4): $118,150 - $159,850
