On-site at the Manassas, VA facility
As a Hardware Design Engineer for the Transmit Group (TG), you’ll contribute to a small cross functional team responsible for the design, requirements, development, manufacturing, integration, production and life cycle maintenance of active sonar TG onboard all U.S. Navy legacy and emergent submarine classes. TG produces the high energy pulses of sound that travel through the water to identify targets of interest. Help us make the world’s most advanced Transmit Group system more capable!
The TG team works with the Navy, internal production staff and representatives from other companies that provide companion systems and services to ensure TG systems meet all requirements, are delivered on time and function properly both in a laboratory environment and onboard U.S. Navy submarines.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with development, systems engineering, and production teams to identify, resolve, and document hardware deficiencies.
Troubleshoot and resolve transmit group hardware issues during system integration, test, and production phases.
Develop and present technical recommendations and written communications to program management and Navy customer teams.
Create, review, and execute hardware design documentation, including interface control drawings, assembly drawings, test procedures, and related technical materials.
Research, develop, and refine product specifications and interface requirements.
Resolve complex hardware/software compatibility and interface design challenges.
Evaluate components and materials to assess performance impacts on existing hardware designs.
Lead and mentor design teams on complex projects, driving innovation and technical solutions.
Engage with customers at both technical and programmatic levels to communicate progress and address concerns.
Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
- Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance within in a reasonable amount of time is required
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field.
Experience: 8+ years of relevant hardware design experience.
Proficiency in CAD and Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools for design, drawing creation, analysis, BOM generation, and part tracking.
Strong understanding of power/analog hardware, systems, and electronics troubleshooting.
Familiarity with hardware and system integration testing, including Assembly Level, Unit, Integration, and System Performance Tests.
Expertise in hardware development processes across the full product lifecycle.
Experience in circuit card design using advanced materials and packaging techniques.
Working knowledge of Linux operating systems.
Exceptional communication skills with the ability to secure buy-in on technical concepts and lead design teams effectively.
- Desired Qualifications:
Hands-on experience with at least one major CAD tool (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Catia) for 5+ years and one major CAE tool (e.g., ANSYS, CD-ADAPCO, ALGOR) for 5+ years.
Experience with high-speed circuit card design incorporating embedded processors or FPGAs.
Background in acoustics or sonar applications.
Familiarity with linear amplifier design, electro-mechanical manufacturing, and power/analog hardware systems.
Knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) and associated hardware development processes.
