Task Description:

Aircraft Mechanic III (23023) Non-Destructive Inspection Technician (NDI): Identifies, locates, and measures hidden and subsurface flaws, corrosion, and separation in bonded and honeycomb structures; the integrity of welds; precision dimensional and volume measurements; and the hardness of materials. Test indications may be represented by cathode ray tube (CRT), visual presentation, digital readout, caliper readout, printout, alarm system, or a combination. Interprets test indications and makes final determination of product as serviceable, repairable, or condemned. On repairable products, records test results, spans defect areas/dimensions on surface of product or work control documents, as appropriate, to specify needed repair processes and/or modifications. Sets up and operates equipment and makes initial instrument settings following guidelines. By use of a test standard with known properties, calibrates instrument for optimum signal pattern. Uses appropriate type of ultrasonic or eddy current instrument and search unit to detect and interpret the relevancy of surface and subsurface flaws in parts. Manipulates transducer or probe over surface of item, simultaneously watching test equipment output for defect indicators. Uses laser optical equipment and software to determine aircraft alignment. Notifies Quality Control, Engineering, or supervisor of abnormal defects for which no repair/inspection instructions are available or when parts failure was contributed to by faulty design.

Specific Skillset Requirement:

Aircraft Mechanic III (23023) Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI):

Contractor employees shall inspect aerospace weapon systems components and support equipment for structural integrity using nondestructive inspection methods. Contractor shall interpret nondestructive inspection test results, and provide information about defects to repair center, establish radiation areas for radiographic operations, perform computation and monitoring of individual personal exposure areas for radiographic operations, and monitor personnel exposure data. The Contractor shall perform nondestructive inspection on structures, components, and systems to detect flaws such as cracks, delamination, voids, processing defects, and heat damage using penetrant, eddy current, magnetic particle, radiographic, optical, and ultrasonic test equipment. The Contractor shall determine metallurgical information of components according to alloy, temper, conductivity, and associated factors, operate, maintain, and inspect nondestructive equipment, perform operator maintenance and service inspections on shop equipment and tools and perform silver recovery functions. The Contractor shall handle and dispose of hazardous waste and materials. The Contractor employees serving in this skill set shall be NAS410

level II or level III certified in each of the following methods:

perform laser alignment using laser tracking equipment, radiography, eddy current, penetrant, magnetic particle, and ultrasonic inspection methods. Contractor employees shall have completed initial Non-Destructive Inspection Training Course and maintains basic qualification.

These duties require moderate to strenuous effort to effectively fulfill job requirements. The Contractor employee shall be required to stand for long periods of time, frequently lift items weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and up to 60 pounds with assistance. Contractor shall be required to stoop, bend, reach, stretch and climb in, around, and through aircraft with equipment. Contractor employees shall possess good eyesight and color-vision. Entry into non-permit-required confined spaces may be required for this skillset on this task order

Task Requirements:

  • Performs Non-Destructive Inspections in support of aircraft Depot Level maintenance functions utilizing, laser alignment using laser tracking equipment, radiography, eddy current, penetrant, magnetic particle, and ultrasonic inspection methods
  • Aircraft maintenance action documentation via logs, records, forms, and electronic means
  • Inspect aircraft components/subcomponents.
  • Read and interpret manufacturers maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Confined space operations to include fuel cell entry
  • Perform general housekeeping and organization of workstation(s), shop(s), maintenance facility to provide a clean, safe, and FOD free environment
  • Perform shift work and/or overtime as required
  • Requisition repair parts, materials, and consumable supplies through military supply system.
  • Perform other tasks as directed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) Level III qualification for laser alignment using laser tracking equipment, radiography, eddy current, penetrant, magnetic particle, and ultrasonic inspection methods
  • Seven or more years’ aviation maintenance experience

Basic Qualifications:

  • Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) Level II qualification for laser alignment using laser tracking equipment, radiography, eddy current, penetrant, magnetic particle, and ultrasonic inspection methods
  • Three years NDI experience
  • Must be able to work shift schedules as required per Performance Work Statement (PWS)
  • Must be able work work-week schedules i.e. M-F, Sn-Th or as required per PWS
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Must be able to obtain favorable National Agency Check with Written Inquires (NACI), IAW DTM-08-003 “Next Generation Common Access Card (CAC) Implementation Guidance or Secret security clearance as required for the position
  • Must be able to climb ladders, raised platforms, and aircraft
  • Must be able to use hand and power tools
  • Must have dexterity to handle small parts
  • Must be able to pass employment physicals

Compensation

$40.05 - /hour

Other Compensation

Employees will receive a health and welfare fringe benefit of $2.65 for every hour paid up to 40 hours per week.

Employment is contingent on (a) your ability to provide appropriate proof of your identity and eligibility to work in the United States; (b) your references and any background check being satisfactory to the Company; (c) you successfully passing a pre-employment drug test; and (d) your ability to get a required clearance by your effective start date, if needed; and (e) KAI commencing performance on this contract.
