Responsibilities

The Lead, Communications serves as the day-to-day lead for Spirit’s internal and enterprise communications, partnering closely with the Director, Communications to inform, engage, and inspire Team Members across the network. This role drives the execution and alignment of key communication channels—including company newsletters, leadership messaging, and business updates—ensuring clarity, consistency, and connection at every level of the organization.

  • The Lead acts as a strategic and tactical partner, managing daily operations, guiding content and tone, and leveraging data to measure effectiveness and engagement. The position also supports external and brand communications efforts as needed, reinforcing enterprise alignment and elevating the Spirit brand voice.
  • Serve as the day-to-day lead for enterprise and internal communications in partnership with the Director, Communications.
  • Develop and execute integrated communications strategies that engage and inform Spirit Team Members across the company.
  • Manage and produce enterprise-wide communications, including company newsletters, leadership messages, and transformation and operational updates.
  • Assists in the planning and execution of meetings and events, such as virtual town halls and leadership sessions, ensuring seamless delivery and brand consistency.
  • Oversee and evolve Spirit LiNK (intranet/SharePoint) content, structure, and engagement strategies to improve accessibility and usability.
  • Leverage communication analytics and insights to evaluate effectiveness and optimize future campaigns.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, HR, Guest Experience, Safety, and other departments to ensure alignment and clarity of messaging.
  • Craft and edit executive and leadership communications, presentations, and enterprise messages that reflect brand tone and priorities.
  • Mentor and guide vendors, interns, and partners, supporting their professional growth and reinforcing message consistency.
  • Serve as backup to the Director, Communications for urgent or high-stakes operational communications (e.g., IROPs, transformation milestones).
  • Support enterprise storytelling and brand initiatives, aligning internal messaging with Spirit’s external reputation and purpose.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment, balancing strategy with tactical execution.
  • Supports with media relations coverage, as needed.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.
  • 4-6 years of experience in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Proven ability to manage complex communications projects from strategy through execution.

  • Strong writing, editing, and message development skills for executive and enterprise audiences.

  • Experience with internal communications platforms such as ContactMonkey, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams Live Events, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to analyze communication performance metrics to inform decisions and improve engagement.

  • Creative design and visual storytelling skills, including experience with Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills; able to partner effectively with all levels of the organization.

  • Comfort operating in ambiguity, handling sensitive information, and adapting quickly to change.

  • Experience with change management or transformation communications.

  • Exposure to executive and external communications.

  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor others.

  • Data-driven approach to communications effectiveness.

  • Passion for continuous improvement and innovation in how organizations connect with their people.

  • Physical Requirements: Low Activity Lifting Requirements: Seldom lift up to 10 lbs, such as small office supplies or documents. Pushing/Pulling: Seldom pushing/pulling of light items within the workspace. Standing/Sitting Requirements: Primarily seated work, with occasional standing for brief tasks. Bending/Kneeling/Reaching: Occasional reaching within arm’s length to retrieve materials. Coordination: Basic manual coordination for standard office tasks (e.g., typing, using office equipment). Vision/Auditory Requirements: Clear vision for reading documents and screens; clear hearing for standard communication. Environmental Conditions: Indoor, climate-controlled environment.
